While soaring renovation costs
increase
the risk of over-capitalizing
on what was once simply a short
cricket pitch, landscapers agree that
homeowners are more likely to
short-change
the value of their
property by not addressing the
appeal of outdoor
living.
"It is a very wise investment to
improve that living space outside
because
you're extending the life
and useable space of your backyard
and the
house".
"As a rule of thumb, you can spend up
to 10 per cent of your purchase
price
of your property on the garden and you
will not over-capitalize."
In general, if you spend $10,000 on
a garden, you add $20,000 to the
value
of your home.
"If you do a really great garden and sell
it, you are offering more than just a
house
and buyers are attracted to that."
